Outreach

Our team engages in many outreach activities, including workshops on science in primary schools, school visits to University, inspirational talks to high schools, and science festival stands for children and the wider public.

16/05/2024: St Margaret's Prep School Together with Dr Eric Lundgren, Mat Olszewski, Pieter Keenan, and John Kerr, we visited St Margaret's Prep school in Calne and we worked with 24 children in years 4-7.
02/02/2024: Wyedean School and Sixth Form Centre Together with Dr Soraya Caixeiro, Mat Olszewski, Athirah Rosli, John Kerr, Georgia Booton, Brad Kerrigan, and undergraduate studetns Ben Dowsett, Ollie Kirby, Thomas Mckinnon-Bell, and Ciaran Rees, we were visited by Wyedean School and Sixth Form Centre from Chepstow and we worked with 50 children in year 7. We also provided lab tours and a campus tour by Ollie Kirby.
11-14/05/2023: LUNAR Festival of Lights,Sofia, Bulgaria Dr Kristina Rusimova featured in the 2023 LUNAR Festival of Lights alongside her colleague Prof Ventsi Valev. The aim of the display was to highlight successful British-Bulgarian collaboration through art, culture and technology, and hopefully to inspire more people to pursue careers in STEM.
31/03/2023: Vasil Kanchov High School, Vratsa, Bulgaria Dr Kristina Rusimova gave a virtual presentation about her research to the classes in year 9 from Vasil Kanchov High School in Vratsa, Bulgaria.
24/03/2023: Wyedean School and Sixth Form Centre Together with Dr Robin Jones, John Kerr, Dr Charlotte Parry, Ben Olohan and undergraduate students Ben Dowsett, Ollie Kirby, Leonardo Parilli, Nicholas Antoniou, and Shyan Memarjafari, we were visited by Wyedean School and Sixth Form Centre from Chepstow and we worked with 51 children in year 7. We also provided lab tours and a campus tour by Dr Robin Jones, Prof Ventsi Valev, Dr Kerrianne Harrington, and Ollie Kirby.
22/03/2023: Trinity Church School Together with Dr Robin Jones, John Kerr, Pieter Keenan and Will Smith, we visited Trinity Church School in Radstock where we worked with 32 children in year 6.
17/03/2023: St Julian's Church School Together with Dr Robin Jones, Dr Kunjalata Majhi, Ben Olohan and John Kerr, we visited St Julian's Primary School in Wellow where we worked with 25 children in years 5 and 6.
16/03/2023: Bishop Henderson CoE Primary School Together with Dr Robin Jones, Dr Kunjalata Majhi, Ben Olohan and Will Smith, we visited Bishop Henderson Primary School in Coleford where we worked with 60 children in years 5 and 6, and also engaged with 15 children in reception year.
14/03/2023: St Patrick's Catholic Primary School Together with Dr Robin Jones, Pieter Keenan, Athirah Rosli and John Kerr, we visited St Patrick's School in Corsham, where we worked with 53 children in years 5 and 6.
04/05/2022: Oldfield Park Junior School Together with Prof Ventsi Valev, Dr Kunjalata Majhi, Dr Robin Jones, and Ben Olohan, we visited Oldfield Park Junio School in Bath, where we ran two workshops and we worked with a total of 62 children in year 6.
20/06/2018: Paulton Junior School Together with Prof Ventsi Valev, Dr Robin Jones, James Fossey, Dr Anita Zeidler and Tomos Davies, we hosted a science workshop on light for 33, year 6 children from Paulton Junior School.
23/05/2018: King's Lodge Community School Together with Prof Ventsi Valev, Lukas Ohnoutek, Caroline Bertems, Dr Nerys Shah and Miranda Bane, we hosted a science workshop on light for 31, year 5/6 children, from King's Lodge Primary, in Chipenham.
10/05/2018: Paulton Junior School Together with Prof Ventsi Valev, Dr Robin Jones, Meg Tucker, Christian Kuppe, Caroline Bertems, and Lukas Ohnoutek, we hosted a science workshop on light for 28, year 5 children from Paulton Junior School.
09/05/2018: Paulton Junior School Together with Prof Ventsi Valev, Dr Nerys Shah, Meg Tucker, Christian Kuppe, Caroline Bertems and James Fossey, we hosted a science workshop on light for 31, year 5 children from Paulton Junior School.
13/03/2018: Newtown Community Primary School Dr Kristina Rusimova lead Prof Ventsi Valev's team (Amanda Ho, Richard Degnan and James Fossey), who hosted a science workshop for 27 children from year 5, in Newtown Community Primary School, Trowbridge at the University of Bath. Artist Angel Greenham and Robert Cooper from Public Engagement at the University joined us as observers. Following the workshop, the children went for a lab visit.
23/05/2017 & 08/06/2017: Holbrook Primary School Together with Prof Ventsi Valev, Rebecca Purkiss, Miranda Bane, Joel Collins, Nerys Shah, and David Hooper, we visited Holbrook Primary School, in Trowbridge where we ran our science workshop for 60 children in two mixed year 5 - year 6 classes.
21/03/2017: Kington St Michael CoE School Together with Prof Ventsi Valev, Rebecca Purkiss, Philip Main and Anastasia Efthymiadou, we visited Kington St Michael CE School, in Chippenham, where we ran our science workshop for 22 children in year 6.
16/03/2017: Newtown Community Primary School Together with Prof Ventsi Valev, Photon and a team of 4 (Joel Collins, Caroline Bertems, David Hooper, Alistair Muir, Rebecca Purkiss), we spent an afternoon in Newtown Community Primary School, Trowbridge. Our workshops ran with 32 children in year 6.
15/03/2017: Oldfield Park Junior School Together with Prof Ventsi Valev Photon and a team of 6 (Joel Collins, Caroline Bertems, David Hooper, Alistair Muir, Rebecca Purkiss), we spent a whole day at Oldfield Park Junior School. Our workshops ran with two classes of year 6 children (64 in total).
13/03/2017: STEM for Britain Finals Dr Kristina Rusimova attended the finals of the STEM for Britain poster competition at the Houses of Parliament in London and engaged with MPs about her research in surface science.
08/05/2016: Baba Tonka High School, Ruse, Bulgaria Dr Kristina Rusimova gave a presentation about surface science to a class of 26 students in year 11 from Baba Tonka High School of Mathematics in Ruse, Bulgaria.
08/03/2013: Bath Taps into Science Participated in "Bath Taps into Science". Bath Taps into Science is part of British Science Week (formerly National Science and Engineering Week) at the University of Bath. All the events run during Bath Taps into Science are completely free. The event consists of a large number of outreach activities with primary and secondary schools.
10/11/2012: Ralph Allen School Participated in an outrach workshop organised by IOP STEM group at Ralph Allen School and led an activity on non-Newtonian fluids at the University of Bath Physics stand, engaging with school children and their parents.
